Ayurveda

Ayurveda, which means “science of life,” has its roots in India, dating back more than 5,000 years. Considered the healing side of yoga, it offers a natural, balanced approach to optimal health.

What is Ayurveda?

According to Ayurveda, each person has a unique constitution – Ayurveda takes into account an individual’s unique qualities in order to create balance and health. The self-healing principles of Ayurveda teach people to become familiar with their individual constitutions, empowering them to make simple yet powerful choices that enhance their mental, physical and spiritual well-being. This harmonious state can prevent disease and encourages a joyful, productive and balanced life.

Ayurveda defines a healthy person as one who is established in the “Self.” It is not simply the absence of disease, but a blissful state of balance when the body, mind and spirit function at an optimal level. There is a healthy digestive fire resulting in good digestion and absorption, healthy metabolism leading to healthy cells, a peaceful state of mind and clear sensory perception.

“As we embrace our passions and delve into the mystery of life, we unite with the majestic complexity of nature; and if we follow the signs, this can help us understand who we really are.”

~ Sebastian Pole

The Doshas

Each person is made up of a unique combination of air, “ether” (or space), fire, water and earth, which determine one’s dosha or constitution called Vata, Pitta or Kapha.
